First Flight

I recently decided to take up flying again.

Its been about 6 years since Ive logged any flight time.

Since Ive last flown, weve moved away from the area where I grew up my whole life, so I had to research what FBOs where available.

I decided upon Blue Ridge located out at the Nut Tree, based on the close proximity to my house, and the nice aircraft they have available.

This morning upon arival, I was met by my appointed instructor. Very nice, profesional gentleman.

We started off talking about what Id done, and if I remembered any of it etc. I didnt really feel as if I remembered much of the work Id done previously. Id accumulted 14 or so hours in my first forte into flying.

As we walked out to the aircraft (a nice looking c152), lots of little bits of info started coming back to me. I was thinking OK, when you check the flaps, check the linkages for freedom of movement, check for yellow jackets in the stall horn, check for birds nests in the cowl......

My instructor went over the normal stuff, this is how we do fuel here, weather freq, traffic freq etc. I felt pretty comfortable .... more comfotable than I thought I would have been.

I start the bird, and proceed to taxi out towards runway 2.

A piper is on short final, and is very very slow. When he touched down, I was AMAZED! hed used about 75ft of the runway to land on. AMAZING!

We stop short of rnwy 2 and pull up the runup checklist.

Set rpm 1700, test mags......L mag burp cough burp.....gotta clean the old girl out :)

Set rpm 2100 lean her our slightly til RPMs drop .... try again .....

Set rpm 1700, test mags......L nice and smooth ... Both rpms climb ... R rpms drop rumble rumble ... lets clean her up again

After 2 or 3 more itterations of this, we decide that we ought to scrub the flight.

Taxi back, and tie down. Instructor apoligzes repeatedly, but I tell him no worries rather safe than sorry.

As it turns out it was nice introduction to the mechanics they have and the shop they run.

Very clean, very well organized etc. I even got to poke my head inside their newest bird :)

A 172 with garmin 1000 setup WOW I cant wait :)

Im hoping to get airborne next monday, but well see how work goes. Its hard to balance an oncall position with family life and scheduling flight lessons. Sheesh, you have to plan these things you mean :)
